As of May 1, 2018, the Military Family ID Card (MFID) will allow family members better access to Dockyard.

Military Family Identification Card

Military families can use the Military Family ID (MFID) card to access parts of CFB Esquimalt and as identification for getting military discounts from local businesses.

The MFID is available to dependants of military members at CFB Esquimalt such as spouses/common-law partners and children aged 10 and up. The MFID is available to families of both active Regular and Reserve Force members.

Obtaining a MFID
You can get your MFID at either Signal Hill MFRC or the Colwood Pacific Activity Centre during regular office hours. After showing their military ID, the military member will need to present their MPRR (Member Personnel Record Résumé) naming eligible family members. The member will sign the back of each MFID card. The process takes approximately 15 minutes.

Each card is valid for 5 years after the date of issue.

Dockyard access
As of May 1, 2018, a Military Family ID Card will allow family members to access Dockyard to drop off their military member or pick them up. Note that it does not include parking privileges on the Base.  It is to be used for drop off and pick up.  Drivers will be asked to follow the blue line and to stay on that route. Please note that family members will not be allowed to access Dockyard by foot.

For homecoming days, there will be no personal vehicle access to Dockyard by family members. Families can travel to and from the jetty by bus.  Family members can also access the Dockyard by foot if they are on the ship-approved access list.

Dockyard residents
Military families that live inside the gates of Dockyard will receive a special version of the Military Family ID card. They will be able to enter by vehicle or on foot by showing their MFID card.

Cards issued before May 1, 2018
Anyone who currently holds a MFID does not need to come to get a “new” one. Your current ID will allow you access to Dockyard.
