Military Family ID Card (MFID)

Military families can use the Military Family ID (MFID) card to access parts of CFB Esquimalt, including free access to the Naden Gym, and as identification for getting military discounts from local businesses.

Eligibility
The MFID is available to dependents of military members at CFB Esquimalt such as spouses/common-law partners and their children. The MFID is available to families of both active Regular Force Members as well as Class C Reserve Force Members. Cards may be issued to Class B Reserve Force Members for the duration of their contract.

Please note that the military member must present their MPRR naming eligible family members.

Obtaining a MFID
Military member and card applicant must be present in order to issue an MFID card.  Cards can be issued at either Signal Hill MFRC or the Colwood Pacific Activity Centre during regular office hours. After showing a valid military ID, the military member will need to present their MPRR (Member Personnel Record Résumé) naming eligible family members. A photo of the card holder is required as well as signature of both the card holder and the Military member. The process takes approximately 15 minutes.

Expiration
Each card is valid for 5 years after the date of issue.  B and C Reserve Force Members are valid for length of contract or up to 5 years.

Dockyard access
As of May 2018, a Military Family ID Card will allow family members to access Dockyard (via the main gate) to drop off their military member or pick them up. Note that it does not include parking privileges on the Base.  It is to be used for drop off and pick up.  Drivers will be asked to follow the blue arrows on Hospital Road and to stay on that route. Please note that family members will not be allowed to access Dockyard by foot.  All family members 14 years old and older will require a MFID to access Dockyard.

Colwood access
Members may be dropped off or picked up where required. Note that this does not include parking privileges on the Base.

Homecomings
For homecoming days, there will be no personal vehicle access to Dockyard by family members. Families can travel to and from the jetty by bus.  Family members can also access the Dockyard by foot if they are on the ship-approved access list.

Dockyard Residents
Military families that live inside the gates of Dockyard will receive a special version of the Military Family ID card. This card is only available at our Signal Hill location. They will be able to enter by vehicle or on foot by showing their MFID card.
