Temporary Closure of All Locations

Source: MFRC | March 14, 2020

Updated April 5, 2020

During this time and in accordance with the Chief of Defence Staff’s directives, CFB Esquimalt is closed to the public effective Monday March 16, 2020 until April 30, 2020. This closure includes all MFRC operations: all of our facilities; all on-site programming and; the MFRC daycare, preschool, and out of school care. During these three weeks, MFRC staff will monitor phone lines and respond to messages.  Please email jackiecarle@emfrc.com or Jacqueline.carle@forces.gc.ca for questions or assistance.  Our counselling services will continue on a virtual (phone, Skype) basis. If you call the MFRC at 250-363-2640 and require immediate assistance, you will receive a prompt to connect with the Family Information Line where you can receive confidential, bilingual counselling. The Family Information Line (FIL) is prepared to respond to family emergencies and connect with support from SISIP as well as Support Our Troops and Strongest Families.

The MFRC will continue to disseminate timely information regarding deployed operations through our website and social media platforms.  Our Deployment team (staff & volunteers) are working remotely and our Family Networks are active via each Family Network Facebook page.  Additionally, if required we will offer family briefings via WebEx.

Here is the difficult part of all of this.  If families find themselves in need of emergency childcare we have very limited resources and there are no care providers in the area who are prepared to care for a child who is unwell or a child who has family members who are unwell. We know that this leaves families in a very vulnerable position and this is the case throughout our community and across the country.   Families will need a very robust family care plan during these times and can connect with one of our social workers who can walk them through options.  Also the FIL is standing by to support families on a case-by-case basis.

The situation is ever changing and we will do our very best to be responsive.  Please monitor our website and social media platforms where we will be providing regular updates.
