Deployment App Launch

Deploying soon? The Esquimalt MFRC has developed an app for military members and their families about to experience a work-related separation. We officially unveiled the deployment app on Thursday December 7 at 11am at the Colwood Pacific Activity Centre. The goal of the app is to modernize support to military families.
“It is the first of its kind for military families,” said Sandra Pinard, deployment coordinator at the Military Family Resource Centre. “It has been really well-received so far by the community.”
Users are able to customize their deployment experience depending on who they are, if they have children or not, in a relationship or not, and the type of deployment they are about to experience. All information entered is anonymous.
Users receive tips to guide them through all stages of a military deployment. They can give a tip a thumbs up or down and hide irrelevant ones. New tips are released every day. They can also create their own tips and share them back with the MFRC for inclusion in future updates.
Users complete checklists to keep track of their to-do lists. They can add their own items to an existing checklist. They can also create their own checklist to keep track of deployment goals or to-do lists.
Other features include a customizable countdown clock, a resource library and rewards via stars and badges for completing different tasks and stages.
“We know that families are not always able to make it into our centre and that smartphones and tablets are a huge part of their daily lives,” said Pinard. “We’ve taken a lot of the content delivered in traditional methods and put them into an interactive app for your smartphone or tablet.”
The MFRC Deployment App is available for iOS at the App Store and Android devices at Google Play. The app was developed with the technical expertise of Three Trees Technical.
